Have Fun & Help Keep Your Teeth Healthy This Holiday Season

Mmmm… We can almost smell the turkey and the stuffing with Thanksgiving 2018 quickly approaching. What are your regular turkey day traditions? There are so many different ways that our family of patients from Northcutt Dental in the Birmingham area choose to celebrate and we love hearing about all of the hilarious moments from your holiday get-togethers and gatherings.

Before you hit the road or prepare your home for company, take just a minute to think about your oral health and how to keep you and your family’s smiles healthy this holiday season. Because let’s face it: we all know the best part of Thanksgiving is the variety of delicious, delectable foods you have to choose from. Your Northcutt dentist wants to make sure you’re not putting your teeth and gums in harm’s way!

THANKSGIVING TIP #1: Plan Ahead

If you’re doing the cooking this year, consider removing one or two dishes from your menu that are loaded with sugar. Is there at least one dish you and the family could live without? Consider swapping it out for something that’s healthier and better for your guests and their teeth. Everyone will thank you for preparing such a tasty treat that’s going to help them stay healthy and feel good!

THANKSGIVING TIP #2: By All Means – EAT!

Your Northcutt dentist in the Birmingham area knows that one of the best things about Thanksgiving is chowing down on yummy dishes. Try to eat smaller snacks that are high in protein throughout the day, so that when it comes time to dine with family, you’re not going to overdo it. Eating healthy, small meals will also keep blood sugar level in check so you’ll crave fewer sweets and carbs.

THANKSGIVING TIP #3: Keep on Brushing

We know it goes without saying, but don’t forget to brush and floss on the big day. It can be easy to fall out of your regular oral health routine, especially if you’re traveling to a relative’s house or if your home is full of friends and family. It’s sometimes easier to skip your nighttime brushing when you’re fighting for bathroom space with your family. It doesn’t hurt to watch how much sugar you eat on Thanksgiving too! Remember that all of those sticky, gooey, pies, sauces, cookies, and cakes can do a number on your enamel and the progress you and your family have been making in taking better care of your smiles.
